There is nothing more exhilarating than racing in a triathlon. It takes hard work and stamina both physically and mentally. When swimming, having the right suit and goggles is important and when running, it’s imperative to have the right shoes, but what about the biking portion of the race?

If you are new to the world of triathlons, you don’t need to worry about spending a lot of money on a bike. There are many beginners that choose a mountain bike since the gears are easy to adjust and the tires are wider making it easy to handle, although putting tires that have less tread can be helpful to your speed.

The fit of the bike is the most important since you need to be able to get on and off the bike quickly without tripping yourself up. Some bike stores have salespeople trained to measure for just this purpose.

The bike seat is something else to take into consideration. Firstly, it must be comfortable. Secondly, take it to a shop to get it adjusted. Most triathlon bikes have a more vertical seat which makes it easier to go from the ride to the run since it moves the saddle forward. It has also been said that you will have less leg fatigue when you start to run as the forward saddle causes you to use different muscles than a typical seat position.
